Addiction to Methamphetamine

By: Eric Minden

Addictive drugs of any kind are becoming easier to get a hold of than they were ten, even fifteen years age. So which drug is the easiest to get in your hands? If you thought of marijuana you were are the right path, but not quite there, the answer is methamphetamine.

This drug is easy to get a hold of because it is easy to find someone who has it and even easier to make. Also this drug is so popular because it acts as an energy booster for those who use it. One single puff or “hit” can keep a user high for more than 24 hours at a time.

Methamphetamine is known as the most popular addictive drug in the world. “Meth”, for short, is the most used drug in the United States, with many users starting as young as age 14. Once these teens start using this highly addictive drug, they may not be able to stop with out the help of a licensed professional and an intensive rehabilitation program.

This drug is one of the easiest to make because it is generally made with household cleaning products that can be, and have shown to be toxic when inhaled. Many of the products that have been used include battery acid, drain cleaners, bleaches, and even some fertilizers. This is also the most deadly drug available, not only due to the contents of the drug but the risks a person must take when mixing these dangerous chemicals.

Many of the manufactures of this drug put their lives and the lives of others at risk each and every time they begin mixing the chemicals. This is because the mixture of the highly toxic chemicals can produce chemical reactions that are highly explosive. Each year there are many reported deaths in the United States which can be linked to methamphetamine labs.

Methamphetamine is a very powerful drug that stimulates the central nervous system. When inhaled through the nose or by smoking, normal neurotransmission of the brain and spinal cord are interrupted. Also, when this drug is inhaled it can cause a highly addictive response.

This drug is most popular with the teens or college students who like to party. This is because “meth” gives a person that extra bit of energy they need to keep going.

This drug is capable of causing many frightening effects which include aggressive behavior, anxiety, excitement, irritability, and paranoia. Many “meth” users tend to be violent with mood swings that can be even more frightening.

There are patterns that many users show which will tell a person if another user is addicted to methamphetamine. Patterns include low intensity, meaning that a person may not be addicted to the drug but still uses. Binging is when a user only uses the drug occasionally but uses a lot when they do use. High intensity is the last level of the pattern. This is when a user is considered to be an addict.

The only way to know if you or someone you know is addicted to this horrible drug is to seek rehabilitation. Going through something like an intervention and rehabilitation program can be hard, and it will be hard to overcome the addiction.
