Marketing Toolbar Updates - TCH Toolbar Facelift

Some time ago I created a marketing toolbar and have to admit that I let it slide a little during the course of the past twelve months. 

I've finally got around to revamping the toolbar and it now includes a bunch of new features and is packed with free and low cost tools, tips and resources for anyone involved in online marketing. These latest updates have improved the original incarnation considerably and future updates will ensure it stays current and relevant.

PPC Web Spy Reviewed

Brad Callen, the man behind such programs as Affiliate Elite and SEO Elite recently released a new piece of free software called PPC Web Spy. Brad's previous offferings have achieved great sales and high acclaim from marketers and SEO folks, so PPC Web Spy seemed worth a little attention.

The software is basically a keyword research tool and claims that it enables users to spy on the keywords that Adwords advertisers are bidding on and using in real time. After installing the software, users will see some additional information on their screens when conducting a search on Google - the most noticeable being a green button under each sponsored result entitled "view keywords". Clicking on the button allows you to see a selection of the keywords being used by the advertiser in question including the cost per click, the amount of clicks they are getting for each and the position they hold in the sponsored listings for each keyword.

Now, I've seen one reviewer blast the software as a useless piece of junk, claiming that it does nothing that you cannot do for yourself and although that is true, to a degree, a lot depends on your knowledge levels. For those experienced with Adwords and PPC who can confidently navigate their way around Google's webmaster tools, it could be said that PPC Web Spy is a bit of a white elephant but to my mind it does offer some very useful shortcuts and makes some interesting data far more easily accessible.

Whether you are a PPC advertiser or not, the software can give some useful insights into the keywords you need to be targeting and offers a quick route to alternative suggestions. In short, it's a helpful tool and as it costs nothing there is nothing to lose by giving it a try.

As with a lot of free tools there is an upgrade option available and this is where the aforementioned reviewer got a little hot under the collar. Those who upgrade the software are able to view a lot more keywords than with the free version and I would say that in itself that is not really worth the upgrade cost. The second benefit for those who upgrade is an interesting viral element that is explained in the video. Basically, any upgraded member who refer others to the free version will be able to get their Clickbank, PayDotCom and Amazon affiliate links appearing at the top of the results when those free users conduct a search on Google. This depends on them having PPC Web Spy installed and activated on their computers and will extend not only to direct referrals but also free users who they give the software away to.

The real problem with this is that most of the users are going to be marketing focused and it's debatable how likely they might be to click on your affiliate links and buy through them. That can certainly be called into question. All I can say is that it doesn't do any harm to spread your affiliate links in any way you can.

PPC Web Spy works only with Firefox too. Would I recommend it? I think on the face of it, my answer is yes - I've found it pretty useful when looking at search results and as a free tool there's nothing to lose for potential users. Would I recommend the upgrade? That's a trickier question and will depend a lot on how much benefit you think the viral aspect might deliver for you. I upgraded myself, partly so that I could write this review having used the software. I've recouped my investment several times over, so obviously others feel that the upgrade was desirable. Don't think that PPC Web Spy will lead to internet milllions overnight but use it for keyword research and you should be reasonably happy with it.

SmartDD Review | Free Secure Digital Downloads With SmartDD Version 3

I have written before about the impressive SmartDD, a secure digital download manager that is available for no cost. Frank Hayward, the man behind SmartDD, has recently launched a totally new version of the software and in response to customer feedback the improvements over the previous release are very wide ranging.

Originally, SmartDD worked only with PayPal and despite being very effective was still only really of use to those selling digital products of their own and using PayPal as the payment processor. Clickbank merchants, for example, were forced to use far more expensive scripts.

Finally however, the full release of the new SmartDD, going under the guise of Version 3 has been released and is ready and available for you to download immediately.

SmartDD now offers support for both PayPal and Clickbank as well as Kunaki and the ability to protect free sign up downloads (for example, you may be offering a product in exchange for an opt-in but don't want people to share the download link).

Latest Free Marketing Software Releases

Blogging has been a little sparse of late due to several ongoing projects and our current situation with our preemie baby son "TJ". However I have not been idle and was hoping to launch a new rebrandable report this week called "Viral Clickbank Footprints". Top Secret Magic Code Review

I don't often write reviews of products like the Top Secret Magic Code but decided to make a rare exception for this particular ebook. (I have not included an affiliate link in view of my comments).

Sold through Clickbank the book has been swamping inboxes and online ads for the past few weeks and by all accounts is selling well. So, is it worth your money?

I would have to say that depends on a number of things. The book has been produced by the author of the (in)famous "Get Google Ads Free"  and the sales material follows the same well worn path of fantastical claims and hype. I bought the book through my own link, purely for research reasons because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

The book is short and to the point which works in its favor, but does it really reveal anything new? Sadly, for anyone familiar with selling advertising space online, not really. After a bit of fluff and filler about Google Adsense, the author goes on to recommend alternatives and provides a list of companies offering to sell advertising space on your blogs/websites on your behalf, complete with his referral links for each.

In short, that's about it as far as the secret magic code goes. If you are completely new to the web and have never before heard of selling ad space on your sites, I guess the ebook could save you some research time but beyond that it doesn't live up to the sales copy.

Does this make it a bad deal?

Well, it wouldn't be the first internet marketing product to make claims that stretch the boundaries a little. There is nothing dishonest about the ebook, it will tell you how and where you can sell ad space and set your own prices for those ads. To suggest that it will make you rich may be stretching things a little - sure if you are Alexa you may be able to sell an ad space on your front page for $15K a month, but as a smaller webmaster or blogger, you cannot command such lofty figures. However, selling adspace is always a good way to bring in some extra cash from even a smaller site and you can often quite legitimately use these services in conjunction with Adsense if you are a publisher.

There is a little more to the content of the book, a section on "arbitrage" is what it really amounts to; offsetting PPC costs by selling advertising space and directing traffic to specific landing pages, an idea which some will already be familiar with.

All in all, it's a short and to the point ebook which will definitely teach some people people something. The author claims to have made a lot of money using his techniques but whether you will be able to duplicate his alleged success is impossible to predict.

This is where the sales copy outstrips the content of the book IMHO. Let's just say that you will need to invest time and money to produce the claimed results, not just add a line of code to your site - and that is no real secret!
