16/06: Enforced Stay In Miami

I needed to post a quick update here as you may have noticed my rather long absence.

My wife Nikki was recently rushed to hospital in George Town and after a long week was finally flown to Miami by air ambulance where she delivered our son, Terence James on 31 May at 10.35pm via c-section.

Our baby was very premature (24 weeks) weighing in at just 1 pound and four ounces, and is currently in the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. It looks as though we will be staying here for the foreseeable future as we wait anxiously for our son to pull through and grow strong enough to return to Cayman.

I am afraid this will curtail my online activities as I do not have ready access at present. It's been a testing few weeks for us both but baby is now two weeks old and is receiving the best available care from the wonderful staff at Mount Sinai. Mum is also recovering well.

Normal service here at TCH will be resumed as soon as possible.

Thanks for the messages of support and your prayers. Our son is doing well and will have heart surgery later this week or early next week. He is feeding and has gained a little weight but still faces many mountains to climb.

Thanks again to everyone who has offered words of kindness.
