The Google Cash Detective Software experience has been an enlightening one on hosting / domain and comparison shopping, FTP, Server Uploads and Crons for me. I am not a technical person. Previous to purchasing the GCD Software - Script on 6/04/07 I had never uploaded a FTP file, create a Database nor did I have any idea what a Cron was or what it was used for. Unfortunately, 3 weeks after purchased 6/25/07 many of the GCD buyers are still experiencing cron issues and trouble shooting other GCD surfacing problems. It has been both enlightening and an ultra frustrating experience. There is only a week left before the 30 Day Money Back Guarantee expires on the GCD.

That's a problem foreseen with desktop spying tools and is an argument for UCP and Cash Alchemist. By the way, you probably won't have any trouble if you use VPS or a dedicated server, but for that price, you'd better get the higher end spying tools.

Thanks Rick, I had not heard of Cash Alchemist before. Have to say it is still a costly choice, if not quite in the same league as GCD on price. If anyone has any experience of the program it would be interesting to hear your views.

Thanks for the feedback Thierry. You are obviously one of the unhappy customers and I'm sorry to hear it has been such a negative experience. I hope you can get things resolved.

I'm not sure it's a "scam" although it is patently obvious that the whole truth wasn't told prior to the initial launch, the product was put on sale despite being flawed, and that there seems to have been totally inadequate support plans in place following the release.

The original buyers didn't understand that it was a script simply because they weren't told so. How can a buyer guess whether a product is a script or not?

Yes, I believe that was indeed the case. There was a lot of information missing from the original sales message. This is what still leaves me puzzled.
A product goes on sale for $497.00 and yet it is apparent, despite the high price tag, that a number of buyers didn't stop to consider what they were buying, didn't look for any third party comment, and based their decision entirely on one sales video and the generated excitement on the vendor's blog.
I know of at least one site that published an article on 2/6/07, two days prior to the initial launch of GCD that posed several very interesting questions and observations about the program. This article quite clearly stated that the product was a script and would need to be hosted on a server. I linked to it in one of my earlier posts.
I'm not making excuses for the vendors, and have no reason to, nor do I disagree with your contention that they were perhaps a little economical with the facts in their marketing. (I have no axe to grind here). What I think it proves is that online, the golden rule of "buyer beware" should always be foremost in your mind, no matter what riches you are being promised.
In this case, the marketing worked far better than the product (at least at initial release) and a lot of people lost their heads in the scrum to get their hands on what they saw as their ticket to easy street! Now, many are justifiably unhappy about the poor support they have or have not received along with many other issues. Perhaps, had they exercised a little more caution at the outset and carried out a little due diligence, not so many would have found themselves with a large hole in their pockets, holding something they had no idea what to do with.

GCD! The worst product ever!
Google Cash Detective BEWARE. Do NOT BUY this product. You will be Sorry! It doesn't work! The latest is that the self hosted version has been blocked by Google for many users. The hosted version is full of hidden charges that they do not tell you about until you sign up for the product. Your keywords are put in a large database where all members have access to them. "Customer Service" and support is an absolute joke!!!!
They will lie to you and tell you that they are processing your refund but it will never show up.
(Snipped By Admin) DO NOT BUY THIS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED......

Well, that's pretty damning, so I have to assume you are a customer? (I had to edit your post for good reason, because unfounded accusations can cause trouble for everyone).
Is there anyone who can tell a positive story, or who has persevered and got GCD, in either incarnation, working for them? If there is, your input would be welcomed. Indeed is there anyone out there prepared to defend the product? Judging by the comments received here, it's not looking at all good at the moment. I'm sure Chris doesn't read my humble blog but he is more than welcome to step up to the plate and respond.
I hope you resolve your problems soon Ed, and thanks for taking the time to comment. There are some useful links in my latest post about this at

I have purchased products from Chris Carpenter in the past that were good so I decided to buy Google Cash Detective. Well this was probably one of the biggest ever mistakes I have made. They have ZERO support, I have never seen anything like it! They take subscription money out of your account without your knowledge even though it was originally a one off payment! I would never buy anything again from Chris Carpenter or buy any product from anyone who was to actively promote Chris Carpenter's products. I feel like I have been robbed.
If you don't want to waste your money and a lot of it, I suggest to stay WELL CLEAR of anything Chris Carpenter is involved in.

Hi Rona,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I'm sorry to hear that this is still causing people problems even after all this time.
From all the negative comments I have seen, it seems that the lack of support is one of the most common complaints and as the product has been around for some time now, it can't really be blamed on being caught out by overwhelming response at launch time.
Having said all that, Chris has, to my knowledge, indeed produced some excellent products that have not resulted in such negative experiences for customers. I think that to tar all of these with the same brush as GCD would be unreasonable, although I do understand that unhappy customers might be inclined to feel as you do about the gentleman behind them.
I should point out that I am not affiliated in any way with GCD, nor did I buy the product myself. This post was made in response to the original release and the difficulties people were having with hosting the script.
