19/09: Make Money Selling Ebooks Online

Make Money Selling ebooks Online - Guest Post/Article By Joshua Spaulding

Can you make money selling ebooks online? You might be thinking about all the ebooks that are being sold on eBay for less than a dollar, and wonder if you can compete with those people who have been selling for a long time.

The answer is yes, but you might need to have a different plan of action. How many ebooks have you bought that you have rights to? Maybe some were bought to teach you different areas of your business but if you have rights, then you can also sell them online.

You might have many $7 script books and products and decide to focus your site on all of these. You will not be building your list this way, but you will be getting 100% commission for selling them.

You should then put together some killer packages which have relevant products for a great price. Look at what you have and how you can add many bonuses to these products.

If you can write your own ebooks then you will be able to decide which rights you are giving on them and then price them accordingly.

You should then decide how you are going to sell these ebooks that you own or have written. If you have some books which are PLR then you should be looking at rewriting them. You might have a sales page with them which you can use to sell your new ebooks.

If you have no idea where to start then you should consider buying some cheap PLR’s and then to start to use them. You will never make any money from selling ebooks if you only leave them on your hard disk. If you do nothing with them, then you will make no money it is as simple as that.

(Visit my store for a full list of PLR resources available for beginners and more experienced users).

It will take time to get your products together, but don’t wait until you have them all sorted, aim to add a new product each week or month. If you have been buying lots of ebooks with rights then you might feel overwhelmed at the task ahead of you. Sort out your ebooks into categories and then see how you can use them together to produce a killer ebook on the subject. Start by using one book at a time, and then set a short time each week to add another book.

You can also package up the products you own and sell them as value for money bundles and offering them as one time offers using a script such as OTO Page Generator

Take it slowly and see what you can learn and then see how you can start to make money selling ebooks.

What kind of sales volume do eBooks have? I am interested in creating a few but have no clue what type of market is out there for such a resource.

@ BMS

well, a lot depends on the niche you are going to target, but there is definitely a demand for digital info products as Clickbank continues to prove. People want information and they want it now so digital delivery is still very popular.

If you have a niche in mind, do a little research and see what products exist already. Checking out the keywords you want to target and seeing what sort of search volume there is will give you some good indication of demand. If you're not sure how to do that I recommend grabbing Josh's free reports from his blog which will give you some great pointers on things like SEO Book and SpyFu for keyword research.

To produce your ebooks in PDF you can use Open Office which is free or something like eWriter Pro which is very user friendly and simple to use ($5) http://www.thecaymanhost.co...

Then you'll need to do some promotion but you could sell through Clickbank or PayDotCom for example and enlist an army of affiliates or go it alone and sell it through PayPal or 2Checkout for example. If you go that route always create secure download pages with something like Smart DD (free) to avoid losses through static links. You can grab the limited version of SmartDD over in my sidebar.

Hope that gives you some ideas.....good luck with the books :-)

This is a really great idea. I have sold ebooks online in the past and made a good amount of money. An even better way is to create and market your own ebook if you want. This was a great article. Keep up the great work here.

Thanks EAT for leaving your comments. There is indeed money to be made selling your own products as the author of the article will certainly testify :-)

eBooks? I dont know if its for me. They seem like for too much work for the payoff. Think I'll keep to my site and adsense...

I agree with EAT, making, marketing, and selling your own ebooks may work even better than selling previously written ebooks.

The only downside is that you have to write something, obviously. But that could pay off big time, especially if you're an expert about what you're writing!

@solinkable

Adsense is fine but why restrict yourself to one income stream. In my experience it is never a good idea to keep all your eggs in one basket and there are plenty of banned Adsense publishers who learned that the hard way ;-) I'm sure that plenty of people selling books through Clickbank will tell you that the payoff is worthwhile.

@Jon
People can usually find something they can write about with reasonable authority - we all know something about something as the saying goes. As the previous commenter says, it takes some work but as you say, if you are prepared to do it, the rewards can be very good indeed.

There is definitely money to be made with eBooks, it's having a potential backend product to increase the profitability that makes it really pay-off. Having the OTOs can help that along - just be thinking about what additional products that same customer might also be interested in since they are already in that spending mood.

This seems like a great idea, anybody can do it? Any subject is marketable? Do you need proper credentials or you just declare yourself as a valid source?

@HSC,

All fair points/questions...

I think anybody can try to sell books written by others online, as to whether anybody can succeed with it is a whole different kettle of fish :-)

On the subject of writing marketable ebooks or reports we have to assume that the writer has a reasonable grasp of the language as a stepping off point. As to what is marketable it's quite surprising what information people are prepared to pay for. I remember the first time that I heard there was a print magazine aimed at people who collect barbed wire and being quite amazed - no offence to those who have an interest in the topic.

There are so many things that, on the face of it, seem so far off the mainstream nobody could be interested in them, yet turn out to be a subject dear to a fair number of people's hearts. Niche marketers seek out these things deliberately to try and make money from them, so I guess most things are marketable after a fashion.

Authority - this is the internet and there are plenty of amateurs on plenty of topics. Amateur doesn't translate automatically to unreliable, although it can turn out to be just that of course. If you have knowledge to share and can communicate effectively, there is nothing to say you can't become an "authority" to others.

Building trust is an important part of any relationships but I don't think that potential authors of digital information products should be dissuaded from producing something just because they have no official title or qualification to back them up. You can always include a very short bio to reinforce your knowledge and experience on the subject matter at hand.
