04/11: Scratchback For Bloggers

Welcome To Scratchback

scratchback

OK, call me mercenary but I’ve decided that since I gave BlogRush the boot I’d try another little widget, this time from ScratchBack which I’ve given some prominent real estate above the fold. It’s a program still in beta and they’re paying out 90% at this stage. It’s simple, all you have to do is tip me and you get a nicle little text link in exchange - it should be made clear that nofollow applies for the links. Think my visitors would be interested in your blog or website? Have an affiliate link to promote? There are many ways to use this, be creative.

So what is it? Well, it’s a way for others to grab a little site wide link for the measly sum of a dollar. I’ve published five spots as any more seemed a little ambitious but I thought it would be fun to give it a go and I will expand the list if it proves popular. Would you pay a dollar or 80 cents CI or 50 pence in UK money for a link at the top of my sidebar? It’s a genuine bargain :-) that’s what it is.

If you’d like a Scratchback widget of your own, click on the link at the foot of the widget to find out more.

Wow. That's a lot to take in. Since my site is not ad based, I obviously have no need for this. As a strictly online diarist I do find the paying to get on someone's sidebar a bit disconcerting. After all, sidebars have power because readers look for the blogs that the current site is inspired by and/or recommends for some reason. This is in a way kind of like payola for getting your music played on the radio. To me anyway . . .

I applaud you getting out there and finding new stuff. I enjoy having you on my Google Reader. (free of course LOL)

Hi Damien

You're right in some ways, and I'm expecting a little flak over the idea, but, then again, now that my page views are growing in leaps and bounds there may be some who would like some very cheap advertising space :-)

I'm very appreciative of my subscribers and regular readers and try to give back as much free exposure to people as I possibly can. I list my Stumbles in my sidebar via RSS and I DoFollow comments, and actively socialize. I love giving free exposure to others.

Is it payola and am I a blogging whore for putting this on my blog? I hope people won't see it that way, but I've no doubt that some will. Just like any other "donation" type plugin it's entirely up to the individual, and, as opposed to donations they do at least get exposure too if they feel it's worth it.

Thanks for the continued support, I enjoy having you in my Bloglines reader too :-)

That looks like a better idea than Blogrush. :)

I've been pondering Blogrush. They did finally roll out the Beta. Sigh. . .

Hi Lucia,

Well, I figure this may appeal to those who are not regular readers or contributors but would like the exposure for a link. Ads would normally cost a lot more than that, so I feel it's offering something of value, even if some might not agree with the idea, it's some dirt cheap advertising..

Any submitted links can be manually approved, so hopefully that will avoid outright abuse and a widget full of porn links! We're not talking about big money here, so I'm comfortable with displaying it .

Scratchback is cool. You might be interested to know there is a similar widget available at http://www.bringabuddy.net It allows for link sales as well as rewarding visitors for referrals…

Check it out..

Hi Dave

Thanks for the heads up on that one - some people may prefer the styling of this one over Scratchback and it's always good to see alternatives.
