As another month draws to a close, and particularly as this domain has reached its three month birthday, I've decided to do a brief synopsis of the past month as it's been for this blogger. (Maybe a regular feature in future months, we'll see). If you've not visited before, please have a look around and subscribe to our feed.
During July I dealt with a variety of issues on these pages, starting out with a rant about hopeless affiliates and ending with one about intrusive video and audio selling. (I blame the heat and humidity for my temporary loss of control). I looked at the causes and effect of blog comment and trackback spam and what you can do to fight off the spammers. We met a pair of Adsense big hitters who came to grief, and pondered the manner in which Google has become such an integral part of the internet. I looked at RSS, some of its benefits and drawbacks and how to get the best from it. There was another semi-rant about sponsored blogging in there somewhere too. We looked at various tools and programs from free to expensive, all of which I hope can contribute to your online productivity and success and also at various companies whose services I felt might contribute to your online experience in positive ways. We had a stampede of Google Cash Detective visitors - I hope that having given it a mention before its launch, that I have at least been able to provide some useful information for those visitors. We also looked a little at some things that went on behind the scenes. If you missed anything check out the July Archives
Aside from all the front page news, what else was going on in the background here at Cayman Towers? Well, we continued to develop things over at the main website and published some more reviews of web hosting companies, and did a fair bit of technical stuff too, which meant that new content suffered a little. We hooked up with several new advertisers and lost a couple as well. Our traffic continued its upward trend both here and at the main site which is pleasing but we still have a very long way to go. Interaction on this blog has been a little disappointing, and I'd really like to see more commenting and discussion going on. Hopefully this will come in time, along with more subscribers. Our subscriber base is growing, but slower than I would have hoped (It's still too low for me to want to publish, so we'll leave it at that for now :-)
We've seen a lot of organic traffic from Google, and ranked pretty highly for certain targeted search terms. We're also seeing quite good results in terms of visit length and people are visiting more pages and spending more time here as each month goes by. Hopefully this means I'm getting some things right. Affiliate income has been slow this month, but I'm not too unhappy and the successes have been all the sweeter for it. A lot of time was spent tweaking and refining certain areas of both CH sites and installing various plugins and extras to try and make them as user friendly as possible. I've also implemented a "do-follow" policy on both blogs. All in all, for a three month old domain, I'm reasonably happy with its progress. But please, more comments would be so welcomed - I Do Follow.
It was as an experiment that this blog started only three months ago, and it's been a lot of fun and educational in countless ways. To all the bloggers I've spoken to in the last few months, some upbeat and some disillusioned, all I can say is keep blogging, keep plugging away. There is a huge knowledge base right at your fingertips, so use it wisely.
I can't help repeating myself here - if you visit us, please do leave your comments, suggestions, criticisms, questions, be they about an article or the blog itself, I'd love to hear from those of you who I know are out there reading.
Because of all the maintenance, I've spent more time on tech forums than on those where I prefer to be but there has to be a bit of both when there is no programmer to sort out the inner workings. I take my hat off to some of the folks who have helped in some of those forums with coding issues and the like. Wordpress and Nucleus forum contributors deserve special mentions (I finally managed to code this blog for that troublesome Feedflare) as do all the plugin authors for both platforms. I should also mention the good folks at 5Star Affiliate Forums who have also been really cool too. The help and advice on offer from so many people has been paramount in solving countless technical barriers and ensured that our pages are (hopefully) improving all the time. Next month the real work lies ahead over at our other site. I shall soon publish a list of all the plugins currently either in use or tried and discarded at both places.
Additional special thanks go out to all you wonderful trackback spammers who have tried to give the readership the lowdown on everything from Tramadol and fake Rolex watches, to debt advice, tax evasion and new shoes. I really appreciate your efforts to make the blogging arena a better place for everyone, and nuking your bots efforts has been a real tonic. (for future reference this is one of the few places in the world where we don't pay taxes - just a tip in exhange for all your wonderful information)
Oh, and before I forget, kudos to the website owner who literally cut and pasted the HTML code for one of my affiliate pages to use on his/her site. Thanks for leaving it all intact and sending me my commissions - way to go
