11/08: Top Secret Magic Code Review

I don't often write reviews of products like the Top Secret Magic Code but decided to make a rare exception for this particular ebook. (I have not included an affiliate link in view of my comments).

Sold through Clickbank the book has been swamping inboxes and online ads for the past few weeks and by all accounts is selling well. So, is it worth your money?

I would have to say that depends on a number of things. The book has been produced by the author of the (in)famous "Get Google Ads Free"  and the sales material follows the same well worn path of fantastical claims and hype. I bought the book through my own link, purely for research reasons because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

The book is short and to the point which works in its favor, but does it really reveal anything new? Sadly, for anyone familiar with selling advertising space online, not really. After a bit of fluff and filler about Google Adsense, the author goes on to recommend alternatives and provides a list of companies offering to sell advertising space on your blogs/websites on your behalf, complete with his referral links for each.

In short, that's about it as far as the secret magic code goes. If you are completely new to the web and have never before heard of selling ad space on your sites, I guess the ebook could save you some research time but beyond that it doesn't live up to the sales copy.

Does this make it a bad deal?

Well, it wouldn't be the first internet marketing product to make claims that stretch the boundaries a little. There is nothing dishonest about the ebook, it will tell you how and where you can sell ad space and set your own prices for those ads. To suggest that it will make you rich may be stretching things a little - sure if you are Alexa you may be able to sell an ad space on your front page for $15K a month, but as a smaller webmaster or blogger, you cannot command such lofty figures. However, selling adspace is always a good way to bring in some extra cash from even a smaller site and you can often quite legitimately use these services in conjunction with Adsense if you are a publisher.

There is a little more to the content of the book, a section on "arbitrage" is what it really amounts to; offsetting PPC costs by selling advertising space and directing traffic to specific landing pages, an idea which some will already be familiar with.

All in all, it's a short and to the point ebook which will definitely teach some people people something. The author claims to have made a lot of money using his techniques but whether you will be able to duplicate his alleged success is impossible to predict.

This is where the sales copy outstrips the content of the book IMHO. Let's just say that you will need to invest time and money to produce the claimed results, not just add a line of code to your site - and that is no real secret!

Thanks for that honest review. I just stumbled upon their sales page today and was wondering about to promote it or not.

I try to do my best about not selling unworthy products on my site, but that's not always possible without having a huge budget to spend on testing products (not even talking about the time).

I know that most of sales pages are full of hype, and I think that nowadays even internet marketing newbies are aware of that.

Nonetheless I like to draw the excesive hype line at the point on how a customer could feel after purchasing a product and using it. If most of the people will probably feel they have paid too much, then I don't want to lose credibility in order to make a quick buck.

Hi Anthony

I'm glad you found the review useful and I've tried to be fair in my comments as I know a lot of people are in the same boat as you - should I buy it? Should I promote it? Had I paid full price for the book I would have been very disappointed but that's not to say it doesn't offer useful information. It just doesn't really do what it says on the box.

i think youre right but it claims:
This is perhaps one of the greatest secrets ever on the entire Web and the "big boys" have deliberately been trying to keep it forever out of your hands and reach!

But if you want it for yourself, then you'd best hurry as the guy giving it out is about to yank it off the market after he gives out just 500-650 more copies!

When you get there you'll see some amazing PROOF such as:

"Benjamin Garcia" $4,437.68 in just 28 days!

"David & Lynda Cook" Made $4,568 in just 7 short days!

"Diana Parks" Made $10,343.34 in just 30 days!

Hi SEO Consultant

Which I think proves my point about the sales copy outstripping the content. I'm not claiming that any of the figures quoted are bogus, only that to achieve them the people in question must be running pretty high traffic sites. As to the threat of the withdrawal of the product I think we are all wise to that marketing ploy by now.......supplies of digital ebooks are hardly likely to run out!!

If you have a high traffic site, you will be able to sell advertising space for more than someone who gets only a few visitors a day - that pretty much goes without saying. Using Alexa as an example is pretty irrelevant to most potential buyers of the ebook who probably don't have millions of hits a month. Claiming the revelation of a "secret" is stretching things a bit and that is all I have said in my review.

Great write-up. It is so essential for Internet marketers, especially the Newbies, to make absolutely sure that they get value for money before entering any deal. On the surface, an offer might appear good, but PLEASE read the fine print. Do your comparisons and also visit legitimate product review sites.

Hi Gerard,

Thanks. It is often hard to find legitimate reviews of products of this type because so many are simply just pushing them to earn commissions. I have absolutely nothing against people trying to make money, that's what we're all here for after all, but the vast majority of reviews are often little more than a promotional vehicle and it does indeed make it difficult to make a decision on whether or not to purchase.

At least with Clickbank consumers do have the option of claiming a refund if they really feel cheated.
