Moving From Blogger To Wordpress

Written by caymanhost on July 9, 2007 – 4:19 pm

So, you want to move from Blogger to Wordpress? Whatever people’s reasons, this question is a very common one and there is never really a simple answer. It was recently raised at the 5Star affiliate forums and I thought a quick rundown on the pros and cons might be of use to our readers. In the thread quoted above you will find an article at the Optiniche Blog setting out most of the points you need to consider.

In order to give a little more assistance to anyone considering moving their Blogger blog to Wordpress, you will find some well written and useful information at this post from Computer Tips From A Computer Guy which expands the information a little further and explains exactly what the consequences will be for certain methods. This is a very good post on the subject and recommended reading, particularly for those concerned about loss of page rank and search engine results.

If you want the official line from Wordpress Codex there is an explanation of the steps you need to take when importing content from not only Blogger but many other blogging platforms.

Further reading can be found at the following locations. Some may be a little outdated, but still contain some relevance and will hopefully add to the overall knowledge and enable you to make a decision based on things such as your personal requirements, importance of pros and cons and your technical ability.

  1. Joan Says:

Best move you’ll ever make… A) Why do more on Google’s platform than you have to. B) It’s the most solid and awesome content management system you’ll ever find. People think of it as a blog, but the reality is that it is so much more. C) Those folks over there building this stuff really deserve some praise. They have other projects and each has the same character, style and usability as WordPress.. Bravo!
