Hi Daniel,

Initially my move to MK Hosting seemed fantastic and service and reliability was exemplary. Then suddenly it all went pear shaped and for weeks they had server issues that forced me to move again. I cannot afford the sort of downtime, but their support was non existent at the time as well which made things even worse.

Every cloud has a silver lining as I've finally found a host with whom I could not be happier. Knownhost have a fantastic reputation and it is well deserved - I have never experienced faster or more knowledgeable support and the servers are reliable and fast.

The support team of 000Webhost is very rude, unprofessional also do not reply in a timely manner, you do not answer any or most of the question that are asked, you also do not explain in a way for me the “customer” to understand what you are talking about. Out of a sign of respect and professionalism it would be nice to say something if you have left the chat session, instead of not replying.

Do not use 000webhost.com, that suck and very dishonest.

Hi Kris,

I was with Kiosk.ws long before they became GVO and what they are today and have to say that the relaunch was what made me move after many good years.

What you say about Joel is true but he jumped into bed with, as you put it, a bunch of sleazy online marketers who will sell anything and everything to anyone foolish enough to buy it - the dramatic effect on the company's credibility could be seen coming a mile off. The relaunch was hyped solely around the network marketing riches to be had and the core business and existing customers suffered horribly throughout the whole circus.

I left pretty disgusted with a company who I had once rated so highly, used personally and promoted willingly with a clear conscience. They simply lost sight of all their existing customers, their previously high levels of service and professionalism, and reliability fell off dramatically. I ceased to promote the company and am confident I made the right decision.

As you say, the high profile marketers who were recruited into the whole thing invariably do not use GVO's services, or, if they do, certainly not the shared hosting that they are pushing to earn commissions. Mike Filsaime's patronage has been a boast of theirs for several years but he has several dedicated servers and no doubt pays and earns handsomely from the arrangement, being such a high profile customer.

Ultimately, what was once an efficient, albeit slightly expensive shared hosting provider, has become bigger but certainly not better. Shame.

GVO is horrible.

I signed up for their 14-day, $1 trial and spent 3-days basically trying to get everything to work.

GVO offers a lot of stuff to be sure, but it does not work as well as getting it separately. Thankfully, I signed off of GVO and am running different online marketing campaigns a lot smoother, using a specific autoresponder and specific webhost.

Getting it all bundled at GVO = crap quality.

While I believe Joel is an upstanding guy and honest, anyone who gets into GVO will be selling crap to other people in order to build their down line and line their pockets. The money flow will blur the moral boundaries.

Just say NO to GVO. Trust me. You'll be glad you did.

And another thing, the only people promoting it are online sleaze bags showing how much money they made RE-SELLING it. They don't actually use it or show others who are using it, I mean some do, but a lot are just resellers.

GVO is another MLM, wherein you pay in monthly fees in order to sell to others so you can get rich. It would be better if you just paid nothing and go paid on a commission, like signing up for free affiliate program.

Skip GVO. You'll be glad you did.

Hi Nick,

Yes, I agree in part with what you say and certainly deliverability can be an issue, particularly for those on shared hosting. I would recommend a dedicated IP for anybody on shared hosting in any case, even if not involved in email marketing.

To date I have had decent delivery rates with GWA and I would add that even stats on open rates from the top third party providers can be skewed for various reasons. As for moving subscribers to a new list with an alternative provider, it is not necessarily the case that you will have to get all existing subscribers to opt-in again - often importing your contacts can be achieved without this requirement if you discuss it with the service provider and can offer proof/assurances that your list is indeed a double opt-in list. Personally I wouldn't move to any provider who flatly refused to discuss such an important issue beforehand.

One very big disadvantage to using a plugin autoresponder, over a traditional service, is that most web host servers have a bad reputation in the eyes of email service providers which results in low delivery rates. Also, if you plan on using a free service until you have a larger list of subscribers and then transfer them to a paid service, all your subscribers will need to opt-in again to the new service which will result in a huge drop in subscribers.

Hi Jairam,

Firstly there are some email providers whose spam filters are overly aggressive and unless the end user marks a message accordingly there is not a lot you can do in some cases. Also people are often far too keen to mark messages as spam even if they have opted in to a double optin list and once they start doing so their mail client will place messages according to their instructions.

My personal experience with GWA has been generally good an deliverability is excellent - however, some messages will almost certainly end up in people's spam/junk folders. At the point of opt in it is always a good idea to ask people to whitelist the address from which you are sending your emails to avoid as many problems as possible.

Hope this helps, you might get some additional help from the member's area if you're still concerned.

Hi Marty,

Thanks for the feedback on Netfirms, would certainly be a better bet for those on a tight budget than most free options. For readers wanting more information, Netfirms also offer shared plans from as little as $4.95 monthly see http://www.thecaymanhost.com/netfirms

Thanks for the warning -- i wanted more space for a famlily website, so i did a google search before i signed up with 000 and this does NOT surprise me. However, let me add that i\'ve had a few free accounts with Netfirms for years and they are wonderful. Of course, we are talking a 25MB limit, and they now require you to register your domain with them ($8-10 per year), but if your requirements are low, they are great. I also manage a couple paid websites for years hosted by them, and have a similarly positive report.

The same goes for the shared hosting: $ 5.99/month if you pay 24 months in advance.

Both reseller and shared are exactly the same thing, having no differences in features, price, best deal, etc.

Hi Lucien,

You can get a reseller account for $5.99 subject to purchasing a 24 month package. Hope this clears that up.

You're welcome John and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. You might be interested in reading some of my other posts on free hosting as although they are not all nearly as bad as this lot, it can still be a false economy.

Just wanted let you know that right now, HostRocket offers Shared hosting at the same price of Reseller - price being $ 5.99/month.
The features are identical (as I see it, they just copied the shared hosting page and renamed it reseller), and you can't see "freebies like $50 worth of Yahoo advertising credit" anywhere.
Maybe I got on a fake page (but Mozilla Firefox warns you of that, usually) who tries to steal cards data, I don't know, but the logo looks the same one you see in the image above.
I suggest you to check it out and see if it's fake or they made this change.

Well, there are literally thousands of choices out there and without knowing exactly what your plans are it's difficult to recommend the perfect host. However, assuming you are looking at a shared plan and in terms of reliability and support, based either on personal experience or recommendations of fellow webmasters who I know and trust I would look at either Knownhost (Prices start at $7 per month) or Liquidweb (prices start at $14.95 per month) and maybe consider Hostgator if either of these are outside your budget (shared plans start as low as $4.95 per month). Hostgator do receive some bad press but bearing in mind the size of the company it's from a minority of users and overall they are a safe place to start.

You can find links to all three in our directory.

I don't know anything about RewindHost so can't really comment for or against I'm afraid.

Thank God I found this now. :)
I was going to buy Hosting24 "Silver" account but, after reading this, I'm definitely trying another host. >_<

Can you suggest me a paid hosting service you trust, caymanhost?

I found out one called RewindHost (url: http://rewindhost.com): it's fairly new but looks neat; only thing putting me off are its way-too-cheap prices (and cheap often means crappy). XD

Help me, 'cuz I really need a reliable host!!! T_T

WOW, dude. Thanks for the heads up about this HORRIBLE host! I was looking into free hosting and did a search only to have their name pop up. I was, of course, smart enough to do my homework and found they have a very bad reputation, doing this same sh** to just about everyone, spamming them with emails, and trying to "upgrade" others to pay.

Thanks again for taking the time to warn others. You have saved us all lots of headache.
