I like the company. I have 2 sites hosted on their servers and their support is great!

After four years with GVO, previously Kiosk.ws I think I am well qualified to comment on the company from a customer’s perspective.

In all the time we spent hosting with them they performed very well 80% of the time.

Things turned a little sour after the move to Texas and the subsequent rebranding to GVO. At this time reliability took a nose dive with all manner of security issues affecting some of their servers as well as hardware problems (not their fault) and a noticeable drop in the quality of support, something which had always been first class before.

GVO are a good host and they offer a lot of features, many of which have been completely revamped as part of the relaunch. If you need the additional services such as autoresponders, video lead capture services and conference rooms they would be hard to beat in terms of value for money. Having said that, $45 per month puts them firmly in VPS territory and this alone is going to be a consideration for serious webmasters.

Whilst the problems we encountered towards the end of our time with GVO were, at times, outside of their control, the response times and the time it took to correct them once acknowledged were just not acceptable and the downtime suffered was the main reason we moved elsewhere in the end. It will take a long time to recover the rankings damage done by the extended downtime.

The influx of network marketing evangelists who have been sucked into GVO on the basis of hoped for overnight riches as opposed to people who want a serious hosting solution may have built a much larger customer base in the short term, but it may also damage the credibility of the core business in the eyes of many and that is a shame.

When we originally joined the company, the plan we were on cost $24.95 which was steep even then but you do have to take the additional marketing tools into consideration in that equation. Unfortunately, the Silver and Platinum plans, although they still appear on the company’s website, do not include anything but the most basic, by today’s standards, web hosting features and none of the additional services. I foresee these being completely eliminated in the future because to be honest you would be a fool to pay the prices charged for such a restrictive shared hosting plan.

Maybe in time, after the whole rebranding and relaunch furore has died down, GVO will get back to being a top flight host once again, but we just couldn’t wait around for that to happen. Overall, our time with them was a very positive experience and the decision to move was not taken lightly but there comes a time when all the good intentions in the world don’t quite cut the mustard any longer.

Cancellation was handled efficiently and professionally. Would we recommend them? Overall, yes, if the services they offer are what you require, you could do a lot worse judging by some of the horror stories out there nowadays.

19/month seems a little pricey but I hear good things about the company.

Had you read my previous review you would have noted my criticism of the price points for the platinum and silver plans which are basically not worth the money. You can go with several reputable shared hosts who offer far more for a lot less money.

You will also note that whilst I give credit to the company for the good service they offered a few years ago, the recent data center move and rebranding/relaunch as GVO had a very negative impact on reliability and levels of service, at least if my own experiences were anything to go by. Whilst I would have once recommended them wholeheartedly, and did so, I would no longer have the confidence to praise them quite so highly.
