]]> Having recently posted a video on how to host a website or blog on your own PC we thought it would be a good idea to follow up with an explanation of how to take an existing WordPress blog and copy it to a local server on your computer.

This can be extremely useful if you want to test and tweak certain things without risking untold damage to a live blog as anything you do on a local server can easily be undone or even deleted completely. By having either a copy of your existing blog or just a WordPress installation for testing purposes you can safely play around in your own WordPress sandbox to your heart’s content and change themes, test plugins, alter code and generally learn a great deal without any risk. It also gives you one more backup of your valuable content which is no bad side effect!

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about WordPress or indeed any other program. Setting up a local server is pretty straightforward even for the non techie and will definitely give you the confidence to experiment and learn more about a whole range of things like PHPMyAdmin and MySQL databases and getting the best from your software of choice.
